!!CANCELLED - TOO MUCH SNOW!!
Tree Planting - Saturday March 25th
The tree planting event is cancelled due to too much snow. We have the trees and will be hiring a team of workers to come help plant them next week when the snow has melted. Thank you to everyone who signed up. Make sure you sign up for the April Work Party, where we'll be working on road maintenance after this very wet winter.
It's been quite the winter at Tie Pond Meadow! We started off with an All Play Thanksgiving that turned into an Agatha Christy novel as one-by-one the headcount dwindled due to illnesses and work schedules. In the end, we still fed over 20 people in the barn. New this year, we set up picnic tables in the big bay with a patio heater. The weather held and we had a dry and sunny afternoon. The sunset colors set the mood through the bay doors as we sat down to feast.
Grandma got a new puppy. Roxy is a boxer/bull terrier mix who has quickly become a sweet companion. She's learning the property as she bounds around the snow covered trails. She'll be keeping the coyotes at bay in no time.
So much snow dumped upon the farm this Winter. The most recent storm added another 3 feet. Thanks to the tireless work of Neal, Ken, Cheryle, and Linda for keeping the roads and roofs clear. Neal even had to pull a delivery truck out after it got stuck dropping off a package. Hooray for the road warriors! The forecast shows a lot more rain so we expect it to be a pretty swampy Spring.
In preparation for the Spring tree planting, a lot of hours have been spent burning the debris left by last summer's logging. A big thank you to Ken for managing the "Ken" sized fires through rainy and windy conditions. Also thank you to everyone who joined for the January and Februrary work parties dedicated to the burn effort.
"Last month, I celebrated my 40th birthday at a big estate near Calistoga, CA. The property featured a main house, a guest cottage, and what they called the Bunk Barn. It was a separate buiding set up with a home theater, billards, and 6 bunk beds built directly into the walls. Each bunk had it's own reading lamp and shelf. Blaed and I have talked about how cool it would be to convert our own beloved barn into a Barndominium where multiple families can stay when visisting the tree farm for a work weekend, holiday, or summer camp. I'm dreaming of a couple of a rooms, bunk beds, kitchen, bathroom (or two), and a gathering space." -Erin
